Marc Jacobs Beauty #VelvetNoir VoxBox

I was super excited when I received my Marc Jacobs #velvetnoir mascara voxbox from Influenster. I thought I was getting a sample size, but I opened it to be very pleasantly surprised at a full sized (high-end) mascara! I’m a total beauty junkie, so this is like the best freebie I could get. Makeup and full sized, yes!

Anyway, what did I think about the mascara? Well I’m usually a bit leery when a mascara promises false lash look. And honestly I think I judge a product more critically the bigger the claims. Being real NO mascara is ever going to look like false lashes….especially without looking clumpy. This mascara does do the job, and I was pretty impressed. While this isn’t my favorite mascara, it does give me quite a bit of length and volume in only a few coats. This is similar to fiber mascara both in results and feel, but without the mess of fibers, primers and multiple coats. It didn’t have any fallout initially (like fiber mascara),  it was very dark black and covered my blonde lashes well, but it did flake/smudge later on that evening. I’m still confused why it says to combine with one of another 3 products and how that would effects the outcome  (because I don’t own any of them.) It’s may just be a marketing scheme. This brush is most close to the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara. The formula is different and unfortunately I believe inferior. The packaging is beautiful,  very classy and sleek however. My lashes have been falling out lately (due to medical treatment), so I like to wear false lashes almost every day. With this mascara,  I was comfortable going without my normal demi wispies and only needed to place a few individual lashes on the outer corners where I am missing lashes (it’s completely bare.) I do really like this mascara,  it’s just not my favorite. It’s a bit clumpy (kinda like fiber mascara is on me.) I wish it provided more individual coating of my lashes.

A Few of My Fav Freebie Sites!

Ok, so I haven’t posted in a LOOOOONG time. I’ve been sick. I’m a spoonie, it happens. I’m sorry. I was diagnosed with horrible carple tunnel in both hands as well as radial and cubital tunnel in my elbows, ALL cause from my RA. The pain was intense but I had steroid injections into my wrists which finally helped. I couldn’t type or even hold my phone for months. I am still recovering, and honestly haven’t decided if I am going to continue blogging at all, but perhaps start a YouTube channel instead to cut down on the typing. Anyway since I will no longer be posting individual freebie lists, I thought I would share a list of sites that I regularly visit to get my free samples and freebies, so you all can hunt them down yourself. This isn’t a complete list, it’s just what I already had saved in OneNote so I can easily copy and paste. Maybe I will follow up with a complete list one day, hopefully, or maybe do a video instead. We will see! So here you go! Enjoy you freebie hunting!

Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs Review

IMAG0819

I was lucky enough to get this sample size Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs, leg makeup sample from Influenster for free in exchange for my honest opinion. I was excited to try it, getting to the end of summer season my legs are no longer getting much natural light, so I thought it would be nice to have a product that could temporarily color my legs if I still wanted to wear a skirt or shorts and even capris. Living in California it is still pretty hot here in September, so even though the summer activities are over, most of us haven’t yet put away our summer wardrobe. I think this leg makeup product is the perfect accessory for my end-of-summer/ beginning-of-fall styles. It’s available in cream and spray and you apply it to your legs like a lotion to give it a little color and a bit a coverage.

For a tutorial on how to apply go HERE.

While I liked the product, and thought it was a good idea, it did have a few downfalls. For one, I didn’t like that when I applied it, it looked somewhat uneven and orange, very similar to if I had used a self-tanner. Being that this product is NOT a self-tanner and doesn’t contain DHA, I expected to be able to blend it a bit better and that the color would look more natural. What I did like about it and what is different from self-tanner or other sunless tanning products was that it provided some coverage on my legs, as you would expect a ‘makeup’ to do. While it didn’t provide full coverage, it did seem to blurr some imperfections on my legs, which I appreciated because I didn’t want it to look fake or like I was wearing pantyhose. I give this product 4 stars out of 5.

Selling Makeup in a Parking Lot?!?

So am I missing something? Is this a new thing? I’ve been sold magazines in the parking lot, perfume even, but supposed “professional” makeup, never! And in the parking lot of a medical office building with residential surrounding it? I wasn’t even in a retail outlet!

So, today this “fabulous” man named Terry walked up to me as I got out of my car, dropping off a friend for a minor surgical procedure (she’s doing great)…anyway, he tells me that the company who makes “MAC makeup” has come out with a new makeup line. Really, dude? You think I believe that…MAC has enough money for a marketing campaign that doesn’t involve walking up to random people in a parking lot! I think they could afford a commercial or two or five! So I giggled on the inside (I’m not a mean person out loud- I didn’t want to offend the poor guy) and I let him go on with himself. So it’s only $20 for a “limited time” to get the word out about this fantastic new makeup line. For $20 I get a shadow and lip pallet, a smaller shadow and liner pallet, and some makeup remover wipes (oddly resembling those of the Elf line?) Now of course me being the nice person I am, I told him if I had cash, that I would buy it (I don’t know what’s wrong with me, I felt bad for him, it was hot outside and his makeup was melting). Now I never carry cash, but of course I happened to have $20 on me, so I bought it…thinking to myself, I love makeup why not add to my collection, it’s only $20 bucks? Well of course he forgot tax, so technically $22 (and now I am fishing change out of my car to pay the extra $2!) So here is the scoop on what I got for my $22 in the parking lot of my doctors office – I didn’t go for the option “upgrade” with the wet to dry flat iron as I didn’t want to waste $55!!!!

My honest opinion ~ I really like how the larger pallet is set up! All the lip glosses and shadows come out and are individual (with plastic flip tops.) On top of it, the center part of the pallet (with the mirror) separates and becomes it’s own small customizable pallet for on-the go. (sorry- I didn’t get a pic of that)  I really love how interchangeable this is and that it becomes a smaller pallet that you can customize and take with you. On the flip side, I don’t really love the makeup. I swatched the small eye pallet on my hand, and as you can see the shadows are NOT pigmented at all (and I put 3 layers), and they cream liners are not creamy enough to go on smooth. I would say that this is a step below Ulta brand or Elf makeup, like maybe comparable with Wet n’ Wild? I ended up not even trying the larger pallet because I don’t think I’ll use it, so I’m going to give it away as a gift at an upcoming shower I am throwing (mind you a 2nd place gift!) This is why I could swatch it or take a picture of how it transforms into two pallets… I didn’t want to break it or something and then be stuck with it!

So, is it cool? Kinda. Is it worth the money? Not really. Do I regret my impulsive parking lot purchase? A tiny itty bit, but not really. Had I not bought it, I would be sitting her wondering, wondering, wondering… AND I would have had to purchase another gift for my 2nd place winner of the panty game at the lingerie shower I’m hosting. Now would I recommend this to a friend? No. Being the “Freebie Diva” I could have found a MUCH better deal for a similar or better collection of makeup. Matter of fact I just purchased a BUNCH of stuff from Elf for 50% off plus GWP and free shipping and I think Elf is better quality than this new Makeover Essentials stuff. If I happen to change my mind after using it on my face (should I have a day where I’m not rushing out of the house, and thus have time to try it – seeing I might need time to remove it and put on good makeup) I will promise to update you, but for now I’m choosing only to keep the smaller eye shadow/liner pallet and give away the rest of the stuff. I hope Terry earned his commission that day! Oh wait, I just remembered he offered me a money back guarantee as part of his pitch…he even said I get to keep the makeup. Then again he did say MAC came out with this makeup line! Ha! Maybe I will check that out. I don’t wasn’t to take advantage but I wonder if he was being truthful. We will see!
